Tools to Help an Auditory Learner With Their Study

In a separate post, we provided information about visual learners and how to help them study. Continuing this theme, The Tutoring Center in West Caldwell has prepared a post to help you identify if your child is an auditory learner and give you some tips to encourage them to learn more efficiently along with information on how they can benefit from tutoring in West Caldwell. If you have noticed that your child can recall song lyrics and jokes quickly, or perhaps they thrive during lectures, it is likely that they identify with the traits of an auditory learner.

Recorded Lectures and Books

Reading is an important and fundamental skill to have, however, it is not always the best method for children to learn. If your child reads slowly or finds it a challenge to learn important topics from a book, look for a spoken-word version which they can listen to while they write notes. If they are attending a lecture, a small dictaphone or a recording app on their cell phone can be a great tool which allows them to re-listen to the information and expand their written notes at a later stage.

Talk It Out

When your child returns from school, ask them about the lessons they learned during the day. Try to ask as many questions as you can, even if you have a full working knowledge of the subject. An auditory learner will benefit from hearing the lesson again, even if it is their own voice, so encourage as much talking as you can.

Try a Jingle

Auditory learners can find it challenging to learn math equations because they are heavily text-based. Choose a particular equation and rewrite the instructions to fit into the tune of a song or a jingle. This method provides a helpful and enjoyable way to change the format into one which engages their learning style.

What's That Sound?

When your child is studying, do your best to reduce auditory distractions. Lower the volume of the television or any music you have playing in the house as even the smallest sounds can be a big distraction.
