SAT prep in West Caldwell, NJ

As we reach November, there are a lot of things to look forward to. One of those is probably the holiday and vacation period we’ll be having in December. Remember, however, that we still have a half of a semester left, and it’s with that in mind that The Tutoring Center in West Caldwell would like to share a few tips to help you ensure your child is on the right track this semester.

If you’ve got a child in high school, you know that now is the appropriate time for him or her to be taking the SAT and applying for colleges and universities. We’ve already talked about preparing for the SAT, which you can read about here

Now is also a great opportunity to help your child reorganize his or her study area, locker, and backpack. Papers or learning tools that are no longer going to be used should be put away or thrown away, while papers that will be needed later should be placed in a folder for safe keeping and easy access. Help your child clean up the clutter in their area in the home. Much like we often do spring cleaning, now is the time to make sure you get a quick, but helpful, fall cleaning in.

If your child has a syllabus or if their teacher has a website on which major assignments are posted, be sure to check that with your child and make note of upcoming major assignments and/or projects. If your child has not already written this information down in their personal calendar, make sure they do. Help your child begin to make plans for the project, buy materials, and ask for clarification on any confusion.

Lastly, you should take this time to check on your child’s grades mid-semester. If you have a child in high school remember that the semester grades will be averaged in each subject, helping to comprise the GPA. This number is important, as it will be taken into consideration during the college admission process. No matter what grade level your child is in, find out more about the grades you are seeing, if your child is on track or falling behind, and determine whether you should take further action.

If you should discover that your child has fallen behind in a particular academic area, you may consider hiring a tutor for your child to reach his or her academic potential.
