Help Your Child Prepare for Exams

As much as your children may not enjoy sitting exams, the reality is that the grades they achieve can determine the opportunities they will be offered throughout their educational path. For this reason, The Tutoring Center, West Caldwell has prepared the following post with tips to help your student prepare for an exam.

Plan

As soon as the exam is assigned, the first thing to do is to write the date in your calendar or your organizer. Once you have done this, start to think about what type of studying you will need to do and what resources you may need. Using this information, make your way back through the calendar and plan sufficient study time. This technique is great for helping students not only remember about exams but to ensure their study time is already planned out before it’s too late.

What Will You Need?

A week before the exam, speak with your teacher about any equipment which you may need during the exam, such as measuring or calculating tools. Depending on the exam, you may need to use a range of devices at set times, and if you don’t have them then you won’t be able to complete the exam.

Points First

The majority of exams are points based, which means that each question and answer is assigned a set number of points, with the goal being to achieve as many points as possible. Before you start answering questions, make your way through the test and identify any sections or questions which you are confident that you can complete quickly and correctly. Once you have finished these, make your way onto the more difficult questions. This method can help students who may not finish the exam to achieve points for answering questions which they studied for, but may not have seen because the section was at the end of the exam.

Review

The last thing that you want to forget and the last thing that you should do before submitting your exam is to review your answers. Even if this means that you won’t complete the exam. It is better that you review all of the answers which you were able to complete, as something small like a number or letter written incorrectly could result in a fail.
