Keep Your Youngster's Brain Entertained, Warm, and Learning!

Whether it’s the winter break or just the weekends during the winter period, there is no denying that the scene in your home is vastly different to the one during the summer months. The most obvious difference is that during the cold months a glue seems to have formed between your children and the couch! If your poor couch could use a break, below are some great, fun learning activities from The Tutoring Center, West Caldwell NJ to help you out.

A Trip to the Museum

At first thought, the museum doesn’t seem like the most interesting place to visit. After all, a parent’s image is likely formed from their memories of visiting museums as a young child. Of course, the world was a very different place then without ready-access to seemingly infinite amounts of information. Not content to let smartphones and tablets steal all of the glory, many museums have adapted modern technologies which allow them to provide educational exhibits for children which are not only interactive but also fun! Your local tourism bureau is a good place to start when looking for museums with appropriate activities. Otherwise, speak with the museums themselves or check out their websites for more information.

Prefer to Stay In?

If you are looking for something a little closer to home, such as your kitchen, then a paint-by-numbers set is a great way to entertain your children while helping build fundamental math skills. Start with a paint-by-numbers set chosen by your youngster which they can complete cleanly but which also has a good range of numbers to use. Once you have this and are set up and ready to paint, consider using the following guide:
  • Identify and paint all of the prime numbers first.
  • Paint the numbers in a set multiplication tables.
  • If there are any number sets you are wanting to teach, look for available remaining numbers to use.
In addition to being a great learning game, this is also a good opportunity for parents to identify any learning challenges early on, such as a child struggling with a set of multiplication tables.
